Mission Statement
For over 35 years, Great Plains Development, Inc. (GPDI), a 501(c)3 organization, has made a crucial impact on our rural, low to moderate income landscape. Within this time-period, GPDI has assisted in creating/retaining an amazing 8,750 jobs in Kansas. GPDI focuses on such vital issues as job creation and retention, dwindling water supplies and infrastructure, housing needs, and support of entrepreneurship/small businesses. We are passionate in being able to reach out to those who need us, and really make a difference.
About This Cause
Poverty is a complex problem — it has no magic bullet, no easy solution. Interrupting poverty is more than an issue of income redistribution. It requires re-thinking the way we organize ourselves, the investments we make in our community, and the way we value our most precious assets — the individuals, families, and children who live, work, and play in our communities. Our goal is to build power specifically in historically excluded or underrepresented populations. We target these populations and connect them with resources and planning, stimulating economy and growth. Unlike many organizations who focus on one issue, GPDI connects to four focus points: Economic Development, Environmental Stewardship, Social Services, and health and Wellness. We initiate economic development with small businesses and entrepreneurs. We also close the gaps that help whole communities reach safe and viable levels of living. We assist communities in finding resources for projects that include such things as fire protection, fresh/safe water, bridges, community/senior centers, streets, and natural gas systems. Housing issues such as rehabilitation are addressed. We assist local governments in meeting community needs created by severe natural, or other disasters, that pose an immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community.
