Mission Statement
Americana Music Academy's mission is to teach, promote, and support the advancement of all forms of music, with a special emphasis on American roots music and its influences. For more than twenty years, our organization has provided lessons, jams, events, and workshops serving Douglas and surrounding counties.
About This Cause
Americana Music Academy is the only not-for-profit music school in Lawrence, Kansas. We offer private and group lessons for a wide variety of instruments and in a diversity of musical styles and traditions. We pride ourselves on creating and supporting musical community through regular jam sessions, volunteerism, and musical involvement opportunities. We are passionate about music being accessible to all people, and we live that out through a robust scholarship system and free instrument lending library. Americana’s scholarship program is an integral component of our lesson program. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, and through this program AMA joyfully works to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent any current or incoming student from pursuing music education. We believe that music is for everyone, and we work to make AMA a space for music making that is safe, affordable, accessible, and inclusive of all people regardless of identity or ability. In 2025, this means that we will provide $22,000 in full and partial scholarships for students of all ages, which is more than 730 lessons! Testimonials from our current and past scholarship recipients regularly speak to the life-changing impact of music lessons: children who are falling through the cracks in school find self-confidence and joy, a visually impaired woman receives ukulele lessons in her own home, senior citizens bring their music to those who are homebound, adults develop a mode of personal expression they never realized they were missing… and the list goes on. We know that music making and music education are vital to the health and vibrance of communities, and we are determined to provide financial support for all needful students.
