Mission Statement
The Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York is the state's foster and adoptive family association. Believing that family is the most important thing, we provide support, information and resources to adoptive, kinship and foster families. Our vision is that no foster, adoptive or kinship care family in New York State will feel alone or unsupported and that all such families will have the tools, support and community they need to nurture their children and be role models for others.
About This Cause
Founded in 1975, the Coalition unites adoptive and foster parent groups, concerned agencies and individuals throughout the Empire State. We represent the families’ viewpoint and work to improve and expand the services available to children and families. By fostering communication and collaboration between families, agencies and concerned citizens, we seek to ensure the stability, well-being and permanency of all children touched by the child welfare system. Our Goals 1) Support and educate foster, kinship and adoptive parents and the professionals who serve them through information-sharing, services, peer support and referral. 2) Improve services available to children and families 3) Increase citizen involvement in local service planning and delivery 4) Educate leaders and stakeholders about the realities, challenges and rewards of foster, kinship and adoptive parenting Advocate for greater support of foster, kinship and adoptive families by federal, state and local agencies Our Services 1) Free, 24/7 HelpLine for foster, adoptive and kinship families 2) Post-adoption support, including counseling, for children and families 3) Over 70 affiliated parent support groups throughout the state 4) Online resources include Service Directory 5) Annual New York State Foster Care and Adoption Conference 6) Training and education for parents and professionals Our Mission The Coalition unites foster, adoptive and kinship care families, giving them a voice and providing support, information and advocacy.
