Mission Statement
To inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence by fostering an inclusive environment for hands-on STEM exploration. We actively seek to make our facility and educational programs accessible to all.
About This Cause
The Lancaster Science Factory is a hands-on, interactive science center housing more than 75 fun and educational exhibits relating to the physical sciences, engineering, technology, and mathematics. Our organization was founded in 2008 in downtown Lancaster City, and in the past 13 years our attendance has more than doubled, from 23,000 annual visitors during our first year to over 51,000 in 2019, as well as an additional 10,000 students served every year off-site through after school programs and assemblies. Access programs at the Science Factory include free admission and busing for all youth-serving non-profits in Lancaster County (over 170 organizations), free access for all sixth grade classes in the county visiting on field trips, free access and busing for all School District of Lancaster classes, free Boy and Girl Scout programs, free admission to anyone who shows an EBT/SNAP card and up to five guests, free admission for active-duty military families during the summer, and Free First Fridays for Families. We also offer a computer coding club for girls (with need-based scholarships available), 20 weeks of Summer STEM Camps (also with scholarships), and a free pre-K program held four times a month that teaches kids aged four to six about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Our target demographic is kids aged pre-K through eighth grade. The Lancaster Science Factory is unique because of our focus on the physical sciences and its applications across STEM disciplines. We value partnering with local businesses in the creation of exhibits, workshops, and summer camps that deal with their fields, as well as all of the local universities and youth-serving non-profits.
