Mission Statement

With over a decade of experience and reaching more than 1.7 million people in Ghana and India, Safe Water Network is developing and demonstrating sustainable solutions, sharing sector knowledge, and building partnerships to supply millions more with the most essential of needs: affordable, reliable, and safe water and water security.

About This Cause

Safe Water Network (SWN), co-founded by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman, is a US-based 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization with operations in India and Ghana. SWN’s priority is to improve public health by preventing water-borne diseases through safe water access in underserved communities and institutions. We promote water security for climate risk mitigation through waterbody rejuvenation and integrated water resource management. Our community-based approach begins with listening to local needs and responding with safe water and water security projects that integrate hygiene, training programs, ownership financing, locally customized purification systems, and ecosystem-based adaptation, resulting in economic and social transformation. Our donors include ADP, American Express, Apple, Aqua For All, Azim Premji Foundation, Bayer Group India, Cargill, CBRE India, Cisco Foundation, Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, DuPont, Engineers Without Borders USA, Global Water Center, Global Water Partnerships, Grundfos, Milacron, NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), Newman’s Own Foundation, Osprey Foundation, Pentair Foundation, PepsiCo Foundation, The One Foundation, The Stone Family Foundation, Underwriters Laboratories, Uptime Global, the Water Loo Foundation, and Vitol Foundation.
