Mission Statement
Through dance and musical theater, we empower individuals to use their creativity and work collaboratively to connect to the world around them. Together in Dance builds community among students, families, educators and other professionals who learn together so that the arts continue to be an integral part of their lives.
About This Cause
Together in Dance (TID) has been providing high-quality creative movement and musical theater residencies, family workshops and professional development to New York City public school communities for over eighteen years. TID believes that, through dance and musical theater, individuals are empowered to use their creativity and work collaboratively to connect to the world around them. TID builds community among students, families, and educators, who learn together so that the arts continue to be an integral part of their lives. TID’s vision is that each individual who works with the organization will carry the experience of collaboration in the performing arts into their future and out into the world. In the past fiscal year alone, Together in Dance partnered with 14 schools, provided quality dance experiences to over 4,000 children and professional development to 100 classroom teachers. TID primarily serves diverse public school communities throughout Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. We have an inclusive model which serves all student populations, especially those who would otherwise have limited access to the arts. Our organization’s school partnerships have poverty rates averaging around 60% (Title I) among their students. For many of the students served, their in-school arts education is their only experience in the arts.
