About This Cause
FAMILY, Inc. provides family support and public health services to women, children and families in Pottawattamie and Mills Counties. It is FAMILY’s primary goal to assist parents in becoming their child’s first and most influential teacher through education, empowerment, and wellness. With offices located in Council Bluffs and Walnut, Iowa the agency serves both urban and rural communities. These services are administered in homes, shelters, and community settings. Through its various programs FAMILY works to ensure families have access to the services and support they need to allow their children to enter school healthy, safe and ready to learn. Home Visitation - Home visits provide parent education and modeling for child development to assist parents in their role as their child’s first and most influential teacher. Topics include: parenting skill development, home safety checks, developmentally appropriate activities for children, developmentally appropriate discipline techniques, and child health and nutrition information. Group support and parenting education groups - FAMILY provides evidence-based parenting classes, support groups, and parent/child socialization groups to any family in Pottawattamie County either on-site or off-site. A number of researched-based curricula including Circles of Security, and Early Childhood Systematic Training and Education for Parenting are utilized. FAMILY also collaborates with organizations in the community to provide classes. All services are provided by Certified Educators Maternal Health Nursing Visits and Maternal Depression Screening - Offered when appropriate. I-Smile @ School - Free oral health screenings provided in elementary and middle schools as well as preschools, WIC, and daycare centers yearly on an as needed basis. Care for Kids - Calls to families who are newly eligible for Medicaid coverage are ongoing throughout the year in order to support and ensure preventative health services like well-child exams.
