About This Cause

Adapted Sports At the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute, we focus on helping patients "get back to living" after experiencing a stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury or amputation, as well as for those who live with a chronic health condition that carries some level of physical limitation. While our comprehensive clinical services are designed to address the rehabilitation needs of our patients, we believe that we can and should do more; we strive to help our patients and members of our community maximize their potential, quality of life and overall health by achieving more than they originally thought possible. Our Adapted Sports Program was established to accomplish exactly that. Through this program, we are giving individuals the opportunity to become re-engaged in physical activity, the community and in being part of a social circle. We are telling our patients "yes you CAN do this" and giving them the resources, access and most importantly, the confidence, to go out and pursue the things in life they enjoy the most. Whether you are hoping to reactivate your participation in a sport you once enjoyed or are looking for something new to get involved with, the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute can help. Our wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and adapted golf programs allow for the development of new skills or the improvement of existing ones, while also giving you an opportunity to forge new bonds and friendships with others who face similar lifestyle challenges. Whether you want to come out and play just for fun or give your competitive edge a chance to shine, our Adapted Sports Program is made for you.
