Mission Statement
Junior Achievement of Central Maryland’s (JA) mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our goal is to empower, enrich, and inspire the next generation of innovators—enhancing their workforce readiness skills, helping them explore career pathways, and helping them create a dynamic vision for their future.
About This Cause
Our proven programs transform academic standards and financial literacy concepts into relevant lessons that support our educators and helps students recognize why they are important. JA's holistic approach incorporates crucial collaborations among families, educators, and the business community to influence student success. JA's unique approach uses volunteers from the community to deliver our curriculum while encouraging them to share their relevant life experiences with students. Our K-12 educational programs focus on: FINANCIAL EDUCATION: JA weaves financial literacy throughout all its K-12 programs. We believe it is critical that students not only acquire financial knowledge but that they develop the ability and discipline to use their knowledge to make wise financial and life decisions. CAREER DEVELOPMENT: The solutions to many of today’s economic challenges are tied to the aspirations and skills of tomorrow’s workforce. If we want a long-term employment solution, we have to start at the beginning. We need kids to see the options available to them and understand the pathway to getting there. ENTREPRENEURSHIP: JA’s entrepreneurship programs open student’s minds to new opportunities, health them understand the power of their choices, and encourages them to reach high to achieve their full economic potential. These initiatives are designed to instill an entrepreneurial mindset to increase knowledge and build skills. JA’s experiential program portfolio arms youth with the confidence, knowledge, and determination to thrive—building a better future for themselves and their community. JA’s elementary programs ignite aspirations in our youngest students, providing them the opportunity to experience real-life roleplaying while developing the 21st Century skills needed for tomorrow’s workforce. Our middle school programs give students the opportunity to explore high-demand careers, assess interests, and strengths, and identify educational pathways for future careers, helping them set the course for high school and post-secondary education and future career goals. Our high school programming helps students understand workplace expectations and opportunities, practice soft skills, and create and strengthen their personal brand and job-hunting skills through in-depth interactions with community businesses and volunteer mentors.
