Mission Statement

ACYPL is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization internationally recognized as the pre-eminent catalyst for introducing rising political and policy professionals to international affairs and to each other. Our mission is to promote mutual understanding, respect, and friendship and cultivate long lasting relationships among next generation leaders in the US and around the world.

About This Cause

ABOUT ACYPL For 48 years, the American Council of Young Political Leaders [ACYPL] has designed and implemented unique international exchange activities for political leaders worldwide. Our programs are designed to encourage civil discourse, active citizenship, and engaged and sound public policy making. They promote sustained professional relationships and friendships among young people poised to become tomorrow’s global leaders and policy makers. At a time when national and international politics are polarized and unresponsive to mounting public policy challenges, ACYPL’s efforts to promote civil dialogue and civic engagement among Democrats, Republicans, and Independents from across the US and their multi-partisan peers from around the world has never been more urgent. ACYPL exchanges enhance participants’ ability to shape broader perspectives about the world and make them better decision makers at home. Each year, with support from the United States Department of State, our global exchange partner organizations, and a wide range of corporate, foundation, labor, and individual partners, we conduct a variety of bilateral and multilateral exchanges for emerging leaders from across the United States and around the world. ACYPL has a network of over 8,500 alumni in 120 countries and territories, many whom have risen to positions of national and international prominence. PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP EXCHANGES Since 1966, ACYPL has designed and conducted public-private partnership exchanges that bring together diverse individuals with divergent political perspectives to explore common concerns and points of difference. ACYPL delegations are comprised of 7 to 9 emerging leaders, ages 25 to 40, selected based on their current leadership role and potential for future achievement. During each 8-14 day program, participants meet and interact with a diverse array of national, regional, and local government officials; policy makers; political and campaign professionals; business, labor, and community leaders; thought leaders; students; and every day citizens to debate ideas and issues and to share experiences in government, politics, and policy making. Each exchange includes visits to the host country capital and several cities highlighting the cultural, geographic, economic, and political diversity of the country. ACYPL works with exchange partner organizations around the world to implement and fund these reciprocal activities.
