About This Cause
NeighborWorks America creates opportunities for people to improve their lives and strengthen their communities by providing access to homeownership and to safe and affordable rental housing. Created by Congress in 1978, NeighborWorks America provides financial support, technical assistance and training for community-based revitalization efforts. For nearly 45 years, NeighborWorks America has developed nationally recognized core competencies that continue to drive revitalization efforts nationwide and support our mission. These core competencies include homeownership and affordable rental housing, professional training and certification, consumer counseling and education, rehabilitation of housing stock, outcomes measurement and training community residents to become leaders in building sustainable communities of enduring value. Much of NeighborWorks America's impact is achieved through our support of the NeighborWorks® network―nearly 250 community development organizations working in more than 4,400 urban, suburban and rural communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In FY22, our network organizations owned and/or managed nearly 205,000 rental homes, created nearly 19,000 homeowners, and provided housing and financial counseling and education to more than 105,000 households. NeighborWorks continues to be the largest housing and community development trainer in the United States, offering virtual training options during the pandemic to thousands of organizations across the country, delivering relevant knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
