Mission Statement

To positively transform the way people view and experience serious illness, dying and loss. To achieve a day when no one in central Virginia dies alone or in pain.

About This Cause

Many people believe that hospice is a destination-a place you go at the end of life. In reality, hospice is a method of care that centers on comfort rather than cure. It's a philosophy that celebrates quality-rather than quantity-of life for patients with terminal illnesses. Hospice of the Piedmont provides patients with compassionate pain control and symptom management, often in the comfort of their homes. We also care for patients in hospitals, assisted living facilities, continuous care retirement communities, and nursing homes. Because our services are covered by private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare, they are available at no cost to the patient and family. But, we also do something unique: We share the journey with families as well, ensuring that those who are grieving-adults, teens, and children-have a safe and supportive place to mourn in our high-quality, long-term grief support groups, classes, camps, and events. These services are available at no cost to everyone in the counties we serve of Albemarle, Augusta, Buckingham, Culpeper, Greene, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, and Rappahannock. Because we are a nonprofit organization, our bottom line centers on the needs of our patients and families-not a financial benchmark. We are dedicated to delivering the most comforting end-of-life experience possible. Along with our experienced and compassionate hospice staff and active bereavement program, we support our patients and families with the only full-time hospice medical director in the area, our serene eight-bed Hospice House (one of just two in Virginia), and our state-of-the-art Center for Acute Hospice Care (CAHC), a 10-bed unit.
