ADAA's mission is to promote the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders through education, practice, and research.

About This Cause

Anxiety and depressive disorders are the most common mental health disorders affecting children and adults in the US. Over 40 million adults have an anxiety disorder, a category that includes posttraumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias and generalized anxiety disorder. Depression affects about 19 million, and about half of all those diagnosed with depression also have anxiety. These disorders can be crippling and disabling, however effective treatments are available. An established organization since 1980, ADAA advocates for public education, early diagnosis and treatment, and research to advance treatment, prevention, and cure of these disorders. ADAA is the largest network of individuals focusing anxiety disorders and depression including professionals who treat and conduct research and patients with these disorders and their families. In the past year, ADAA has provided 5.5 million website individuals with high quality, educational resources and helped those suffering with disorders find treatment. ADAA also produces a free monthly e-newsletter.
