About This Cause

Help and Emergency Response Inc. is a 501(c)(3) established in 1985 to address the growing need of services for communities and survivors affected by Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking. H.E.R. provides a 24 hour hotline, a trauma informed housing first approach, mental health counseling, court advocacy, empowerment services, and youth and family services. Annually H.E.R. serves over 500 clients in shelter and in the community in the cities of Portsmouth and Chesapeake VA.
