Mission Statement

The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources – United States (IUCN-US) is a partner organization of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). IUCN-US was incorporated in 1986 in the District of Columbia, has 501(c)(3) charitable status under U.S. law, and has been supporting IUCN and its network of members and partners for over 25 years. The mission of IUCN-US is to support its partner organization, IUCN, and other partner organizations with similar missions in addressing some of the world’s greatest environmental challenges. IUCN-US provides financial support for scientific and educational activities, field projects and efforts to develop and implement policy, laws and best practices to advance conservation initiatives around the world.

About This Cause

Key Staff: Dr. Tracy Farrell, CEO, IUCN-US Tracy Farrell has 20 years of experience developing, leading and overseeing global conservation and sustainable development initiatives and programmes. She has a PhD from Virginia Tech in Forestry with additional technical and policy experience in freshwater and ecosystem services, protected areas, biodiversity conservation, and conservation finance. For the last 16 years, she has been working for Conservation International, where she designed and oversaw CI’s first global freshwater and ecosystem services programme, led the Greater Mekong programme from CI’s regional office based in Cambodia, and designed and implemented CI’s Asia-Pacific conservation and fundraising strategy. Most recently, she created and has been leading a team tasked with enhancing project design and delivery excellence across a portfolio of the highest dollar and most complex public and private sector projects valued at over USD 500 million. Ang Sherpa, Chief Financial Officer, IUCN-US Mr. Sherpa is the CFO of IUCN-US. He joined IUCN-US in April 1998. Prior to coming to Washington, D.C., Mr. Sherpa was the Senior Finance Officer of the IUCN Nepal office from December 1992 to March 31,1998. Prior to IUCN Nepal, Mr. Sherpa worked for projects under the Government of Nepal jointly funded by the Government of Nepal and donors. Mr. Sherpa is also the Senior Finance Manager of the IUCN Washington, D.C. Office Finance Unit; he serves in the capacity of CFO of IUCN-US under contract between IUCN and IUCN-US. Mr. Sherpa is a graduate of Tribuvan University in Nepal and received his B.S. in Accounting from Strayer University in Washington, D.C. He is a Certified Public Accountant from the Commonwealth State of Virginia, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
