Mission Statement
Improve the health of Marylanders experiencing food insecurity and chronic illness by preparing and delivering medically tailored meals and providing nutrition education, thereby achieving racial, social, and health equity.
About This Cause
For over 30 years, Moveable Feast has been making and delivering meals at no cost to people who are unable to access, prepare or afford nutritious food. Moveable Feast was founded in 1989 by a group of volunteers delivering home-cooked meals to people living with HIV in Baltimore City. Over time, Moveable Feast has widened our service area to Baltimore County and 14 counties, begun producing medically tailored meals in our own production kitchen to meet our client’s evolving medical and nutritional needs, and expanded services to people with chronic illness and co-morbidities. Moveable Feast’s Home Delivered Meals Program provides medically tailored meals and other essential nutrition directly to people living at the intersection of food insecurity and serious chronic illness. When included in treatment plans for individuals with complex health conditions, medically tailored meals have been shown to reduce overall health care costs and positively impact individual health. We are the only organization in our service area that provides medically tailored, home delivered meals at no cost to those with serious health needs and undergoing medical treatment. High quality, evidence-based programs are only successful if they meet people’s true needs. Moveable Feast is a community-based organization made up of staff, volunteers, and organizational leaders that live in the communities we serve, have deep roots in the LGBTQ+ community, have experienced chronic illness, and have felt the negative effects of systemic racism on health outcomes and access to care. We regularly solicit direct feedback so that our programs serve the individuals and communities they were designed to impact. We have a Client Advisory Board that meets regularly. Our movement to nourish and fortify continues to gain momentum because others are discovering something we have known for decades: food is medicine.
