Mission Statement

Americans for Medical Progress is dedicated to protecting society’s investment in biomedical research. We focus on public outreach that builds understanding and appreciation for necessary and humane animal research. We also provide vital news, information and analysis to biomedical research stakeholders to ensure they have the resources they need to deflect campaigns that threaten the future of medical progress.

About This Cause

Our programs offer the opportunity for audiences of all ages to learn about biomedical research, including essential animal studies. A few higlights include: • Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD) BRAD is an annual celebration designed to raise awareness of the importance of animal research to medical progress. It is coordinated by AMP and hosted at individual institutions. Learn more at bradglobal.org • Lab Rat Chat a podcast featuring conversations about animal research for public audiences. Learn more at comeseeourworld.org • Love, Care, Progress Videos: “Love, Care, Progress” is a program that features short documentary-style videos about the continued advancement of medicine through animal studies and the compassionate care these animals are provided. See them at amprogress.org/love-care-progress-videos • CuriousScienceWriters - (cSw) is a program trains creative high school students to translate complex bioscience and engage the general public through the power of story. Each student has a professional science writer as a mentor. Their articles are posted on the cSw blog throughout the year. curioussciencewriters.org/ We also offer fellowships, training programs and other resources to engage in educating the public about animal reserach. We also provide support for those working within the biomedical reserach community to ensure they have the tools and resources to effectively communicate about their work wiht animals in research, teaching or resting and to deflect or manage threats to medical progress. These include: • AMP's News Service o Targeted alerts to individual institutions about activist campaigns and activities that could disrupt operations or cause significant reputational damage. o Weekly communications and security newsletter on animal activist trends and events. o Monthly outreach newsletter filled with articles, profiles and ideas for launching effective public education programs that can help increase public understanding and as a result, reduce activism threats. • Communications strategy consulting AMP’s team includes expertise in internal and external communications, media and security and are able to rapidly convene with you when challenges suddenly arise to discuss possible responses and strategies. • Media training and interview preparation services Americans for Medical Progress offers both general and issue-specific media training and interview preparation services • Expert spokespeople Americans for Medical Progress has several experts on hand who can provide interviews, quotes, soundbites and important context when challenges arise at your facility. • The AMP Partners Resources Portal A new password protected area of the AMP website includes information and advice to assist organizations targeted by anti-research groups. It also includes guidance on increasing public engagement, communications and transparency and much more.
