About This Cause

The National Film Preservation Foundation is the nonprofit organization created by the U.S. Congress to help save America's film heritage. We support activities nationwide that preserve American films and improve film access for study, education, and exhibition. Since 1998 the NFPF has provided preservation funding to 323 public and nonprofit organizations across all 50 states and helped save more than 2,620 “orphan films” that are unprotected by commercial interests and would have been unlikely to survive without public support. The NFPF has made hundreds of films available through its website and award-winning Treasures DVD series. For our preservation work, we receive federal money on the condition that we match it with donations to keep our programs running.
