MUM helps people in crisis in the Silver Spring, Wheaton, Kensington, Rockville and Aspen Hill communities with food, medicine, eviction prevention and utility shut-off prevention, emphasizing client choice, problem-solving and self-sufficiency.
About This Cause
Mid-county United Ministries helps people in crisis in the Wheaton, Aspen Hill and Kensington communities with food, medicine, eviction prevention and utility shut-off prevention assistance, emphasizing client choice, problem-solving and self-sufficiency. MUM is a secular non-profit that is governed by a board of directors, has several paid part-time employees and many volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours of service. Funds come from local government grants, financial donations from individuals, businesses, civic organizations and faith communities, as well as in-kind food donations. MUM has also received various grants from foundations and non-governmental agencies. MUM is currently housed in the South Tower of Westfield Wheaton at 11002 Viers Mill Road, Suite 710. The majority of those seeking MUM's service come by public transportation and learn of the services through referrals from congregations and other assistance agencies. Our Mobile MUM food pantry provides food assistance at different locations on Sunday afternoons from 2:00-4:00pm. The locations vary from week to week and can be found on our website: mumhelp.org
