Mission Statement
CHIME mobilizes community resources to promote and provide music education for DC public school students.
About This Cause
Since incorporation as 501c.3 tax-exempt DC non-profit corporation in 1998, CHIME has reached over 30,000 DC Students in 80 schools with participatory presentations, provided instructional assistance to 15 schools (including funding a violin program for 24 students at a DC inner-city public E.S. ); provided donated instruments to many DC schools with instrumental programs; held many professional development workshops for teachers; organized an exhibition at the Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum on the History and Significance of DC School Bands (200 6-7); testified at public hearings before the Mayor and City Council on behalf of increased funding for music education. We have done all this with one staff member (pro bono since 2009) . Professional presenters are paid; many instructional assistants for school music teachers are volunteers, instructors in charge of programs are paid.
