Mission Statement
The Washington Jazz Arts Institute is committed to the education, presentation and documentation of Jazz Music in and for the Washington, D.C. community. The Institute is devoted to the preservation of the past, the promotion of present and preparation for the future of Jazz in D.C. The Institute will works to firmly fix through oral and written history the contribution of Jazz music to the cultural and social development of Washington, D.C., and the contribution of Washington musicians to the creation of this uniquely American music form. The Institute conducts a free, metro area-wide musical outreach and education program in support of a Jazz orchestra which expands opportunities for the appreciation of live Jazz in the area and especially to enhance training and performance opportunities for young musicians.
About This Cause
A free structured program of musical education with a focus on Jazz; offering a range of opportunities for children who can benefit form artistic therapies, cultural awareness, individual and group musical training, performance experience, mentoring relationships, both as mentors and mentees, and exposure to the variety of career options which would utilize their musical talent
