Since its inception, the organization has been successful in motivating African American students to work diligently to achieve high school success, to earn college academic scholarships, to achieve academic and professional success in college, and ultimately to earn Six-Figure Incomes with major corporations in their Early to Mid-Twenties. Because it is only the second year for the new SAT, it is important to briefly cover the specifics of the new SAT again in this year’s report. The new SAT consists of two sections (Math and Reading/Writing). Each section is worth 800 points for a total score of 1600 points. The Reading section was reduced from 67 questions to 52 questions comprised of 5 reading passages. Sentence completion and short passages were removed. The Writing section was reduced from 49 questions to 44 questions comprised of 4 grammatical passages. The error ID questions and sentence corrections were removed. The Math section increased from 54 to 56 with trigonometry being added. While there is an overall reduction in the number of questions, the easier types of questions were removed, thus creating a more difficult test. We started this year with a goal of exceeding the average SAT score of 1200. While we did not reach this level, we did reach an average SAT score of 1150 which is well above the national average for African-Americans. Also, we had several students exceeding 1200, 1300, and 1400 on the SAT. Overall we had over 80 students exceed 1000 on the SAT. This included students from the 7th through the 12th grades. We had 52 seniors with an average SAT score of 1150 and an average SAT score improvement of 345 points. We averaged sixty (60) students each Saturday from a total population of 135 students. Since inception our average attendance has averaged 45% if our total enrolled population. Our college graduates continue to raise the bar with employment at Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, Deloitte, T. Rowe Price, The National Security Agency (NSA), Accenture, Dow Chemical Company, KPMG, and Booze Allen and Hamilton. This year (2017-2018) our primary goals are to increase the attendance in our Regular Saturday Program and attain an average SAT score exceeding 1200.We plan to increase our total enrolled population to 200 students and, at the same time, increase our Saturday Class attendance to seventy-percent (70%) for an average of 140 students each Saturday. We have also enhanced our efforts in the area of Professional Development in the areas of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. The foundation of our 2017-2018 goal is our effort to attain adequate funding, for acquiring additional space and strategic staff to effectively manage our expanded operation. The graduating class of 2017, as well as some BYA alumni, continue to make very impressive career achievements. A few of them include: • Mathew Reeds- Goldman Sachs • Brandon Pryor- T. This year was our second year participating in the T. Rowe Price Senior Encounter. This program is essentially an Investment Management “Boot Camp” that exposes a select group of high school seniors to the world of finance. We have had five BYA students to participate in each of the last two years with great promise. The 2017 Summer Academic Camp was also our most effective to date. We had a total of 141 students with an average performance improvement exceeding 30%. This clearly indicates that we will reach new academic and professional milestones in 2017. In fact, the average SAT score improvement for the August 2017 test exceeded 300 points. Also during the 2017 Summer Academic Camp, 10 students earned Microsoft Excel Certifications. Because of our tremendous success in 2017 we began the process of streamlining our internal financial and program operations. The overall purpose of this is to: • Expand our operations in a new facility by the end of 2017 • To develop promotional strategies to present our operation in a very impressive manner • To grow to produce over 150 seniors by 2018 • To achieve an average SAT score exceeding 1300 in the combined sections of Math and Reading/Writing by the end of the year 2020 • To participate in the 2017 “Giving Tuesday” Campaign
