Mission Statement

APALRC advocates for the civil and legal rights of low-income Asian Americans in D.C. Metropolitan area.

About This Cause

The mission of the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center is to ensure that Asian Americans in Metro-DC have equal access to the legal system to defend and protect their legal rights despite financial, language and cultural barriers. Since our founding in 1998, we have fulfilled this mission by combining community outreach and legal education, with individual legal assistance and systemic advocacy. We created a Multilingual Legal Helpline to enable potential clients to contact us in their own language. We launched a Legal Interpreter Project to train bilingual individuals to be interpreters between the clients and their legal advocates. We prioritize serving the legal needs of victims of domestic violence, human trafficking and crime, as well as meeting the immigration legal needs of the Asian immigrant community. The APALRC is the only civil legal services organization in the region that focuses on serving the legal needs of low-income Asian Americans with limited English proficiency.
