About This Cause

In 1997, the LGPA, Masters Tournament, PGA of America, PGA TOUR, and USGA formed a partnership to lead an initiative called The First Tee. This initiative began as a way to bring golf to kids and teens who otherwise would not be exposed to the game and its positive values. Since its inception, The First Tee has grown into a robust youth service organization impacting the lives of more than 10 million young people and exposing them to core values and life skills that will help them both on and off the golf course. Founded in 1999, The First Tee of Greater Washington, DC, is a local chapter of The First Tee under the auspices of the World Golf Foundation. Its mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. The goal of The First Tee of Greater Washington, DC, is to teach young people about the fundamentals of golf while instilling in them the Nine Core Values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment and teaching them about the Nine Healthy Habits of play, energy, safety, mind, family, vision, friends, school, and community.
