Mission Statement

Project REAP's mission is to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the commercial real estate industry through education, mentorship, and partnerships. Our vision is a commercial real estate industry where diversity thrives and leaders of color have equal opportunities to influence and lead.

About This Cause

Project REAP (Real Estate Associate Program) was founded in 1997 by Mike Bush, vice president of Real Estate for Giant Food, to increase minority representation in the commercial real estate industry. At a time when ethnic minorities held less than 2% of management roles, REAP was created to open doors to professionals of color by providing both the education and, more critically, the industry networks necessary to thrive. Launched in Washington, D.C. in 1998, the program quickly expanded to major cities across the U.S., including Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Dallas. REAP’s unique approach recognizes that, unlike many industries, entering commercial real estate often depends on who you know, not just what you know. By providing access to industry insiders, firms, and career development through a competitive and selective process, REAP breaks down barriers to entry for minority professionals. Today, REAP has built a thriving community of over 2,000 alumni who now work at leading firms across the commercial real estate landscape. REAP continues to transform the industry by providing professionals of color with both the knowledge and connections they need to succeed, ensuring that leaders of color have access to the networks that have traditionally been out of reach. A 2023 impact study found that 71% of alumni have transitioned into or advanced their careers in the industry. The study also found that REAP alumni have seen significant salary increases, with a 33% rise for those earning between $100,000 - $200,000 and a 14% rise for executive-level roles.
