Mission Statement

Art Enables is an art gallery and supported employment program dedicated to creating opportunities for visual artists with disabilities to make, market, and earn income from their honest and compelling artwork.

About This Cause

Art Enables was founded in 2001 on the conviction that artists that are differently-abled are vital to a robust arts landscape. We feel strongly that these artists should be afforded the opportunity to leverage and utilize their unique gifts to achieve their dreams, professionally and personally, through a career in the arts. Since our founding, Art Enables artists have sold more than $1 million dollars in artwork, been exhibited in hundreds of exhibitions and shows locally, nationally, and internationally, and have made meaningful and important contributions to the visual arts community and community at large. Art Enables’ vocational arts program model provides program participants with a diverse set of opportunities that allow them to develop as artists and gain experiences important for all growing professionals. We achieve this through three primary program elements: Studio Arts Program: The Studio Arts Program is at the center of our work, through which our artists experiment, develop, and create their artwork in a supported and professional studio environment. Here artists receive materials, professional guidance, and the encouragement of their peers and Art Enables’ staff in the art-making process. Exhibitions & Gallery Program: Through our Exhibitions & Gallery Program, we showcase and promote our artists through large group, small group, and individual exhibitions both onsite in our galleries and through offsite shows at local, national and international venues. This program provides artists with invaluable exhibition experience and opportunities to market and sell their work. Community Arts Program: Our Community Arts Program is focused on creating opportunities for the general public and local area artists to join our artists in the art-making process through community-based workshops, joint art projects, events, and exhibitions. This program creates community-based events that emphasize inclusion, promote understanding, fosters relationship building, and celebrates diversity of ability and artistic expression.
