Mission Statement
Little Wishes grants the immediate and ongoing wishes of seriously ill, hospitalized children to ease their discomfort and bring them moments of joy.
About This Cause
To a hospitalized child, seemingly simple little wishes - a stuffed animal, sports memorabilia decorating the child’s hospital room, Spiderman figurines, books or DVDs - can and do make a huge difference. They provide a welcome distraction, brighten long days and are a tangible expression of community compassion, love and support. Little things make a big difference. The organization was founded in November 2002, by Laura Euphrat and Joanne Davantes, two pediatric nurses who had seen first-hand the huge difference little gifts and gestures had made to one of their pediatric cancer patients. Little Wishes was granted 501(c)(3) status in May of 2003. All wishes are granted in the hospital with the purpose of bringing comfort and distraction to the child enduring medical treatments and regimes. What makes Little Wishes’ program unique (and why they keep the wishes little) is that a qualified child may make another wish 14 days after receiving their first little wish, and every 14 days thereafter. This is really meaningful for children who endure frequent hospitalizations or for a child who has been in the hospital for weeks or months at a time. Little Wishes currently serves seriously ill children who are hospitalized at 22 hospitals in 12 states nationwide and has a waiting list of 50+ hospitals waiting to partner with us. In 2019, Little Wishes granted its 15,000th wish!
