Mission Statement
We want to share with you that our new Yoga Hall is more than a yoga “studio.” Hatha yoga is more than stretches with incredible (and increasingly proven) health benefits. More and more people recognize the mental health and well-being benefits of hatha yoga. Following this, more people are recognizing its original spiritual purpose and benefits. Ananda Yoga has added affirmations specific to each pose to help students tune into the consciousness from which the physical poses were originally sourced and which is the spiritual essence and purpose of each pose. We are a specific spiritual path (kriya yoga) following the inspiration of a modern spiritual teacher (Paramhansa Yogananda). Paramhansa Yogananda explained that this work is a “new dispensation of the eternal truths.” Our intention, practice and affirmation is very much non-sectarian . The core values of what we represent lies at the heart of the spiritual impulse embedded in human consciousness and is expressed, variously, in all true faiths.
About This Cause
ANANDA SEATTLE MANDIR TRUST makes possible offering yoga and health related classes at its newly constructed YOGA HALL on the grounds of the ANANDA MEDITATION center at 23305 Bothell-Everett Hwy. Using the banner INSTITUTE OF LIVING YOGA and with the generosity of volunteer yoga teachers, yoga classes are offered 6 days a week and certification courses for yoga teachers are conducted throughout the year which are approved by the Yoga Alliance for both Levels 1 (200 hours) and Level 2 (500 hours). The Institute also gives classes in basic and intermediate meditation and in meditation teacher training. In addition, classes in the use of power of the mind through concentration and use of affirmations, creative visualizations and music therapy are offered throughout the year. There are courses in vegetarian cooking, supportive leadership, counseling, and yoga philosophy. None of these classes can cover the operating expenses of this facility, even with volunteer teachers. It has been the generous support of students and participating members that has made possible the land, infrastructure, buildings and grounds and the net operating expenses. Class fees constitute only about 25% of the total operating costs. Ananda offers training in yoga and meditation and related lifestyle courses (including vegetarian cooking) as an educational service promoting healthy and sustainable living. An affiliate and self-sufficient spin off organization, Ananda Farm LLC, provides farm-to-table local fresh, organic fruit and vegetables to participating students and the general public. This reflects Ananda’s commitment to healthy living, body-mind-spirit. Ananda Yoga is based on classic yoga postures with the addition of the use of affirmations and an emphasis on inner, energy awareness and as a preparation for meditation. Ananda Meditation is mindfulness practice focusing on the breath. Advanced breath control practices are taught in the popular 12-week Raja Yoga Intensive. The most advanced meditation practice taught requires a year’s training and culmination in learning the technique known as Kriya Yoga. Classes are open to the general public. The physical and mental health benefits of both yoga and meditation are being explored, studied and published virtually every week.
