About This Cause
Since 1935, Goodwill of Greater Washington has provided job training and employment services to individuals in the Washington, DC metropolitan region facing barriers to success. Goodwill’s mission is driven by three divisions: Retail, Contracts, and Workforce Development - collectively employing over 1,000 area residents. The Retail and Contracts divisions operate distinct social enterprise models with the goal of providing increased employment opportunities in the greater Washington region. Retail and Contracts associates face many of the same barriers to success as Goodwill's training program participants. All associates are provided with one-on-one career coaching, opportunities for advancement, and access to the Caring Fund which provides emergency financial assistance during times of acute need. Goodwill’s Workforce Development division offers free career development services and industry specific job training programs that prepare participants for careers with opportunities for advancement in rapidly growing industries. All program participants also receive critical employability skills training, continuous one-to-one coaching, job placement and retention services, digital skills training, access to technology, and supportive services where needed. These programs are designed to give all area residents the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. With one of the most extensive service footprints and partnership networks of any local workforce development provider, Goodwill is an exceptionally strong community resource for low- to moderate-income families and other people facing barriers to meaningful employment to acquire the tools they need to find, secure, and retain employment at livable wages and achieve their dreams. Goodwill envisions a community where all people can build careers with advancement potential, achieve their highest level of personal success, and show they are more powerful than the barriers they face.
