About This Cause
Life is a series of ordinary moments punctuated by extraordinary ones. A couple makes the loving choice to adopt a child. A parent calls because the cancer came back. A child with autism starts kindergarten. Divorce strains the fabric of a family. These moments, highs and lows, beginnings and endings, often overtake us—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Despite our best efforts, they become the mirror in which we begin to define ourselves. We all have these moments. We all deserve to find support for our health and our humanity when they arrive. JSSA opens our door for you at these moments. We’re the health and social wellness agency who knows that no matter what life brings, you should be seen—by experts, and for who you are. We listen with respect. We ask questions. We connect your needs and concerns with the right people to help you resolve them. We take time to know the whole you, because we believe that to be considered high quality, care must be rooted in caring. Caring is how JSSA renews the lives of our neighbors across suburban Maryland, northern Virginia, and the District. It’s how we guided a man grief-stricken after his father’s death to rediscover the Larry who loves volunteering at the local animal shelter. It’s how we helped a teen angry about her parents’ divorce feel comforted and valued, free to be the Rachel who dominates the soccer field. It’s how we located a new job for a man with autism where his new co-workers know him as Mark, just like we do. Providing expert support to our neighbors when they need us is more than just our job. At JSSA, we’re putting our Jewish values to work to heal our corner of the world. Because each time we commit to understanding all of you—to make a moment less confusing, more fulfilling, or easier to manage—we contribute to the shared humanity that unites all of us.
