Mission Statement

OUR IDENTITY We are the Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Saints Cyril and Methodius – a community of mentors, teachers, and students living and working in an ecumenical environment of Christian unity, integrity, and missionary spirit. OUR MISSION As the Byzantine Catholic Seminary, we form leaders for the Church who continue the mission mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ to “go…make disciples of all nations… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19-20) that they may “have the light of life” (John 8:12). OUR VISION As a Catholic community of formation, we discern and nurture the gift of vocation granted by the Holy Spirit to those men called to a life of ordained ministry. As a theological center and resource for lifelong learning, we hand on the Tradition of the Christian East for those men and women who seek to serve and enrich the life of the Church and to engage the world in theological reflection, dialogue, and witness. OUR COMMITMENT Motivated by the hope and love that flow from faith in Jesus Christ, our seminarians, theology students, staff, and faculty, share a life of work, study, prayer, and joy. Established in apostolic tradition, scripture, the holy mysteries, and ascetical discipline, we are committed to being a light in the world, proclaiming the Kingdom of God in communion with the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church, and fostering ecumenical engagement. OUR MANDATE Founded in 1950, we are a free-standing, English speaking theological seminary, welcoming all those seeking the knowledge possessed by the Eastern ecclesial traditions. We are authorized to grant graduate degrees by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools. We offer the following degree programs approved by the Commission on Accrediting: Master of Divinity; Master of Arts in Theology. About This Cause

The Byzantine Catholic Seminary of SS Cyril and Methodius operates primarily through the generosity of others. We accept gifts to help us continue to offer quality education and formation to men studying for priestly ministry, as well as for those seeking academic and pastoral formation to serve as deacons, theologians, catechists, and cantors. The Seminary, as a center of learning, also provides graduate level theological studies in the Eastern Christian Tradition to those interested in teaching, research and advanced study. The Seminary likewise supports other educational and formational programs to serve Byzantine Catholic Churches and the wider community. Your gift can have a major impact on the lives of our students and the future of our Seminary. Unrestricted gifts always provide us with the flexibility to meet the most pressing needs at the most appropriate time. As you examine ways in which you can support the Byzantine Catholic Seminary, please know that the staff at our Office of Development is available to assist you. The Byzantine Catholic Seminary of SS Cyril and Methodius is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.
