Mission Statement
As Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa, founded and inspired bt Mother Kevin, our Mission is to spread the Good News of Jesus. We strive to do this by the joyful and generous, prophetic witness of our vowed lives, which challenge today's negative influen ces, replacing them with meaning, simplicity, joy and hope. Sustained by a reflective, prayerful lifestyle we journey with others as 'instruments of peace.'
About This Cause
We are an international and intercultural Missionary Congregation. Our Mission is principally in Africa. Our focus is to work with and support the poor and the poorest of the poor. In 1904 Mother Kevin Kearney and her companions travelled to Uganda via Mombasa. This journey began the beginning of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa (FMSA)….. and in 1926 an African Congregation was founded, also by Mother Kevin, namely The Little Sisters of Saint Francis. From this beginning so many years ago we are presently involved in numerous activities in Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Some of these activities are the caring and schooling of street children in Nairobi; care of the elderly destitute in Nakuru, Kenya and Mbikko, Uganda; training program multiple-skills for unschooled teenagers and youth in Nairobi; care of displaced people in South Sudan; technical skills education and rehabilitation of prisoners in Uganda and Zambia; women’s sewing programs in Zambia, Literacy programs in Uganda; Education for Life Programs (teaching Christian values) in all countries….. With all that is mentioned we also are engaged in Pastoral work, Spiritual Retreats, teaching in Primary Schools, dispensaries and Trafficking..... Assistance is also needed for those in Formation and for our elderly Sisters in the Motherhouse (frail care) and the Nursing home. In total there are about 100 Sisters.
