We serve children in foster care and children struggling with mental health challenges through foster and adoption programs, residential mental health programs, and specialized education schools.
About This Cause
UMFS is an unwavering champion for high-risk children and families. We serve children in foster care and children struggling with mental health challenges through foster and adoption programs, residential mental health programs, and specialized education schools. Headquartered in Richmond, UMFS has 9 locations across Virginia providing a comprehensive array of programs to meet the needs of high-risk children and families to enable them to overcome challenging circumstances and achieve a brighter future. We divide our services into four main focus areas: Find, Heal, Guide, and Build. FIND – We help children find loving, supportive families through the following programs: Treatment Foster Care, Kinship Care, and Adoption. HEAL – We help children and their families heal at the UMFS Child & Family Healing Center, a level C psychiatric facility with a 24-hour therapeutic program for children struggling with acute mental health challenges. We also provide specialized therapies in several different programs including our Adoptive Family Preservation program. GUIDE – We guide children at the UMFS Charterhouse School, a specialized education school which serves students with behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges, or autism & neurodiversity. We also provide support and guidance to parents through our Family Support Partners program. BUILD - We help children and families at risk of out-of-home placements get the support they need to build a brighter future through our Intensive Care Coordination and Functional Family Therapy programs.
