Mission Statement
When school's out, Clubs are in. Every day in America, over 15 million kids (1 out of 4) are left unsupervised after school. In the summer, 43 million kids (3 out of 4) don't have access to critical summer learning programs. The Southside Boys & Girls Club believes that every kid deserves a Great Future. About This Cause
The Southside Boys & Girls Club Annually Serves Nearly 1,200 Young People, Through Membership And Community Outreach, In 2 Locations Including Public Housing. • We are community-based and building-centered • We provide a safe, affordable place for youth during non-school hours and the summer • We provide a hot meal & snack each week Monday-Friday through our partnership with the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia OUR VISION: Provide a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle. Our Clubs Help Kids Stay in School and Improve Their Academic Success each year 2 out of 10 high school students in America fail to graduate on time. In the communities we serve it’s 5 out of 10. Through programs like Knowledge Hour, we identify those youth that are having difficulties in reading and math and provide them with homework help and tutoring. Help Kids Graduate from High School, Prepared for a Great Future is the highest priority for our Clubs. A variety of programs support this effort: • Goals for Graduation, an academic goal-setting program • Career Launch, GFSH TV, Law & Order Southside, reinforce positive behavior introduce young people to career choices and the world of work • Money Matters: a financial literacy program • Sorority Girls & Boys 2 Men promote responsibility, and develop character in females & males while teaching them about sister & brotherhood. Our Clubs Help Kids Lead Healthy Lifestyles and Avoid Risky Behaviors our signature program in this area is Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul. Our Clubs Help Kids Develop a Strong Character our Youth of the Year program recognizes young people who have overcome tremendous obstacles, and excelled in academic performance and community service. The Southside Boys & Girls Clubs is Highly Respected for over 40 years of being in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances.
