Mission Statement

The purpose of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress is to promote public service and strengthen representative democracy domestically and abroad. FMC utilizes its membership’s unique skills and experience in bipartisan programs which educate, disseminate information, and create dialogue, while also serving its membership by creating opportunities to stay connected following service on Capitol Hill.

About This Cause

The United States Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC) utilizes the unique skill sets of its 600 members to provide pro bono public service programs and initiatives both at home and abroad. Originally conceptualized as an alumni organization when it was founded in 1970 to keep former Members connected on a social basis, it has grown into a NGO offering substantive domestic and international programs for its members. Today, FMC is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, educational, research and social organization with approximately 550 members who represented American citizens in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. While the organization has been chartered by Congress since 1980, it is not funded by Congress. It is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. Thanks to its membership dues, annual fundraising dinner, donations, and grants from corporations and individuals, FMC sponsors programs across the nation and in numerous foreign countries at no cost to the taxpayer.
