Mission Statement
The Sickle Cell Association, Inc. provides comprehensive health education and counseling services while striving to improve the quality of life for sickle cell clients and their families.
About This Cause
The Sickle Cell Association, Inc. since 1972 has continually worked to promote awareness about sickle cell disease and to improve the lives of individuals living with the debilitating effects of this chronic illness. The Agency is certified as an affiliate by the National Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. The Association educates consumers about how to manage the disease and improve the quality of life. Community-based services include help with identifying community resources for families and working to educate the community to eliminate the stigma associated with individuals living with the disease. The support counseling services help to empower the individuals through acquired knowledge and life skills development. The Association helps families with basic needs including food, utility assistance, housing and medical transportation. The sickle cell client can expect a lifetime of medical emergencies and painful attacks that may result in hospitalizations, many families rely on the Association to help during these times with limited emergency financial assistance. The Association is at the forefront in understanding the impact of health care changes on their medical care and help the patient to navigate the health systems they will need.
