Mission Statement
To champion the independence and well being of older adults and their caregivers by providing comprehensive, personalized care for daily life.
About This Cause
Our region is facing unprecedented need for elder services -- so ably provided by Circle Center for 40+ years. Among the nation's first adult day programs and among Virginia's most innovative, the Center is comprehensive and compassionate in its care. Each week the center provides care and support to 100+ area families who choose to care for their elderly relatives at home. 70% of those family caregivers work outside the home and depend on the Center to keep their relative safe, as healthy as possible and engaged during the day so they can work without worry, interruption or distraction. Others have caregivers who depend on the Center as a source of respite from 24/7 care giving. Program and services include: • On-site, all-day skilled nursing care, wellness programs, recreational and music therapy, personal care including showers, nutrition services (breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks), social work services including support groups for participants and family caregivers and individual counseling, transportation and rehabilitation coordination to meet individual needs, respite for caregivers • Pioneering use of Montessori-based care for advanced dementia; documented to improve engagement and reduce problem behaviors in participants who otherwise are unable to attend to tasks, are restless and anxious, wander, ruminate and otherwise require constant support and supervision • An innovative multi-sensory room, to meet the needs of the most impaired who are withdrawn or agitated • Dedicated space and professional staff for exercise-based Wellness Program, a model for others serving the frail elderly • Use of electronic health records to increase compliance with regulatory requirements • Preparation of the next generation of professionals for future eldercare roles with student internships in nursing, occupational therapy, social work, psychology, and therapeutic recreation, from seven Virginia and out-of-state universities • Needs-Based Scholarship Program for those who cannot afford all or part of their care
