PRINCESS ANNE COURTHOUSE VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD AND FIRE DEPARTMENT

VIRGINIA BCH, Virginia, 23456-0344 United States

Mission Statement

We are in desperate need of two new ambulances due to the breakdown of one older vehicle and the growing population and need for another ambulance. We have applied for a State grant to cover 80% of one new ambulance, but we have to raise the 20% portion ourselves ($44,500). The second ambulance will cost $225,000, and we will apply for a grant in the fall to cover a portion of that expense as well. We are in need of $44,500 for our replacement ambulance and $25,000 for our second ambulance, if both grants are approved. If these ambulances are not obtained, emergency medical services will have to come from a rescue squad further away, delaying critical life-saving health care to many. Please help us to serve you!

About This Cause

For over 70 years, Princess Anne Courthouse Volunteer Rescue Squad (PACHVRS) has served the people of Virginia Beach with free emergency pre-hospital medical care. PACHVRS staffs two stations - Rescue 5 (Courthouse Municipal Center) and Rescue 21 (Red Mill-Strawbridge) – both located in the geographic center of the city. We cover the largest geographic area in the city of VA Beach. We are all volunteers, with no paid staff. We cover a heavily populated area of the city during the daytime hours, since we are located in the Princess Anne Municipal Center, with an influx of possibly 60,000 people each work day. Our squad is a 501(c)(3) independent corporation, one of ten sister squads who serve the City of VA Beach (the largest volunteer rescue system in the world), and we are responsible for purchasing our own equipment, uniforms, vehicles, supplies, and other necessities. (The City does provide maintenance and insurance on our vehicles.) These purchases are made possible through donations from citizens and fundraisers, without aid from the City. With donations being the main source of income, we are forced to work with a lean budget, supported by limited donations and fundraising events each year. Alternative funding sources have been exhausted or are unavailable for an all-volunteer organization such as ours. Donations continually fluctuate, calls to service are increasing, and the cost of ambulances is rising. We have been unable to meet the demand in our area for emergency medical care, which has delayed life-saving care to some. Two ambulances would solve our critical situation. Thank you for your concern!
