HACAN Strong Families Strong Communities mission is to strengthen families, empower youth, and prevent child abuse and neglect through culturally competent education, intervention, and community advocacy.

About This Cause

Founded in 1985, HACAN fosters strong family relations and promotes child abuse awareness and prevention in the community. The population served encompasses a diverse, economically disadvantaged census tract. HACAN’s programs help to keep families together and emotionally strong. Provide “Parent Education” to improve, support and build upon the parenting skills of families; enabling parents to become more effective communicators and establish loving, trusting relationships free from violence. Enhance development of children and youth, through… • “Morning Star” program for girls and boys ages 4 to 13 where they learn about STEAM, reading, and team building activities. Morning Star provides participants with a safe environment that empowers and educates them to make wise decisions during their adolescence. • “STAR” an advocacy and leadership program for high school students. STAR addresses the importance of education and empowers youth to become effective community leaders and agents of social change Prevent child abuse and neglect by promoting child abuse awareness.
