Mission Statement
SCAN of Northern Virginia's Mission is to promote the well-being of children, improve parent-child relations and prevent child abuse and neglect by: - EDUCATING the community about the scope, nature and consequences of child abuse and neglect and the importance of positive, nurturing parenting; - PROVIDING direct parent education; - ADVOCATING for children in the community, the legislature, and the court.
About This Cause
Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of Northern Virginia is the only organization focused solely on preventing child abuse and neglect in Northern Virginia. As a survivor-led team of child advocates, we put children at the center of everything we do. For 35 years, SCAN has been committed to preventing child abuse through public education, family support, foster youth advocacy, and professional development for youth-serving organizations. All of SCAN’s work is grounded in research and informed by survivors with lived experience. SCAN’s Vision is that every child in Northern Virginia will grow up in a safe and stable family, with the support they need to contribute to stronger communities today and as adults tomorrow.
