Mission Statement
The Arthur F. Burns Fellowship is an exchange of journalists between Germany and the United States or Canada, with the primary purpose of increasing public knowledge and understanding about the three countries, and the relations between them, through independent mass media. A parallel goal of the program is to develop reporters who are interested, skilled and informed about transatlantic relations.
About This Cause
Each year a total of 20-24 outstanding media professionals from Canada, the United States and Germany are awarded an opportunity to report from and travel in each other’s countries as part of The Arthur F. Burns Fellowship. The program offers young print, broadcast and new media journalists the opportunity to share professional expertise with their colleagues across the Atlantic while working as foreign correspondents for their hometown news organizations. During their Fellowships, participants broaden their international perspective and gain a greater understanding of issues in their host countries. Participants are expected to produce work for both their home employers and host news organizations.
