Mission Statement

To bridge religious considerations with the practice of international politics in support of peacebuilding

About This Cause

The International Center for Religion & Diplomacy (ICRD) is a 501c3 organization that specializes in peacebuilding and conflict resolution through engagement with the religious sector. ICRD works in complicated conflict environments all around the world to enhance the role of religious actors, institutions, and values in the peacebuilding process. Where many see religious as solely a driver of conflict and violence, ICRD empowers religious leaders to build peace, save lives, and reconcile adversaries in the midst of violent conflict. Founded in 1999, ICRD's twenty year history has taken the Center to 20 countries across 5 continents. With work focused in Spain, Indonesia, United States, Colombia, Yemen, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Sudan, and elsewhere, the Center is truly global organization that engages with a variety of different faith traditions. While not a religiously affiliated organization itself, ICRD is an organization that understands the socio-cultural importance of religion and acknowledges that nearly 85% of the global population identifies as religiously affiliated. The Center believes that any truly effective and sustainable peacebuilding effort needs to involve and take seriously the religious sector in any given conflict context.
