Mission Statement

Raleigh Youth Choir educates youth in the art and joy of singing through quality instruction and performances. We envision youth from all cultures and backgrounds joining together to experience the power of song. At Raleigh Youth Choir, we offer each young person a unique experience. Our instructors meet every child exactly where they are and provide specialized instruction, all while providing mentorship and encouragement. We are all about the power of “yes” and having a can-do attitude. Every youth has a voice and those voices are valued.

About This Cause

Raleigh Youth Choir, formerly Raleigh Boychoir, was founded in 1968 with a deep commitment to excellence in music and nurturing the vocal talent of boys from across the region. For over fifty years, our all-boy choirs performed across the state, country, and even the world. These youth and their instructors earned numerous awards and were invited to perform on some of the highest stages including the White House and the World’s Fair. In recent years, our leadership has made another deep commitment to excellence – excellence in inclusivity. We began a new chapter of our history in 2022 by serving all youth who love to sing as the Raleigh Youth Choir! Raleigh Youth Choir can’t wait to take you with us on our journey to a more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming choir experience. Changes like this take time – we know inclusion and trust aren’t built overnight. We’ll stumble and swerve along this journey as we continue to learn and grow, but at the end of the day, we will rise. Because we are more than a choir, we are a community. A community rising to meet the needs of the greater Raleigh landscape. The Raleigh Youth Choir is experiencing tremendous growth both in our numbers and our repertoire. Now composed of six distinct choirs, RYC can serve the specific needs of young singers: singers who have not learned to read music, those that have, and singers with developing voices. Due to our history, we are well versed in the needs of the changing voices of young male singers, but we are also committed to offering a gender neutral, inclusive environment for all singers. We hold several key performances every year. Most notably our "Carols of Christmas" performed annually at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in downtown Raleigh. We have had and will continue to have collaborations with such groups as the North Carolina Symphony and the Triangle Youth Symphony. Our organization is led by Artistic Director, Jeremy Tucker and Executive Director, Christopher Short. Both are accomplished musicians and experienced arts administrators in the Raleigh and Wake County communities. Raleigh Youth Choir would not be successful without the support of volunteers, many of whom are parents of singers. We are always on the look out for new volunteers willing to support our choirs by serving on our board, assisting with fundraising or assisting in any number of ways. Raleigh Youth Choir is a recipient of grants from both the City of Raleigh and the United Arts Council of Wake County.
