Mission Statement
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
About This Cause
Since 1983, Habitat Charlotte Region continues to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. Our organization builds and repairs homes for low-income families earning up to 80% of the HUD Area Median Income (AMI) in the Cities of Charlotte, North Mecklenburg County and both Iredell and Gaston Counties who are in need of affordable housing solutions or financial education, encompassing a service area of more than 1.5 million people. Through our New Homeownership program, we build quality homes from the ground up or renovate existing homes, which are then priced at fair market value and sold to income-qualified homebuyers with mortgages that are "right-sized" through subsidies to be affordable. Our partner families must earn a minimum of $40,000 annual gross income and no more than 80% of the area median income for their residing county. Our Critical Home Repair program provides qualified families with significant repairs, improving substandard housing conditions for those with limited financial resources serving all individuals below 80% of the area median income for their residing county with no minimum income required. The preservation of affordable housing in the region is just as important to the mission as building new affordable units. For that reason, we have planned a 15% increase in projects for Fiscal Year 2025 to serve 149 households in our service area. Our financial education program provides assessments, coaching and partner referrals along participants journey to becoming mortgage ready either with Habitat Charlotte Region or on the open market. Our goal is to assess an individual's readiness to purchase, provide them with the tools to overcome any financial barriers, and the knowledge to make the best decision for themselves. Our financial education program is a pre-requisite to our homeownership application. Through our mission, we bolster economic mobility by adhering to the philosophy that homeownership creates equity for a family and can break the cycle of generational poverty. In Fiscal Year 2025, we anticipate crossing a major milestone of 5,000 families served with a goal to serve over 750 households this year.
