About This Cause
Samaritan Ministries was established in 1981 and operates four programs to benefit hungry and homeless people in Forsyth County: (1) Soup Kitchen - free hot lunch for men, women and children of all ages (155,000+ meals/year). (2) Homeless Shelter - 70 beds - temporary emergency shelter for homeless men for up to 90 days (600+ different men/year). (3) Project Cornerstone - 10 beds - men reside at Samaritan Inn for 13-18 months with individualized case management to help homeless men overcome substance abuse in order to find housing and/or employment. (4) HOT Project - Homeless Opportunities and Treatment - is an onsite mental health clinic in collaboration with Wake Forest Baptist Health. The clinic provides free psychiatric evaluation, counseling and medication for homeless people in the community. Samaritan is a volunteer-based non-profit with at least 30 volunteers participating daily.
