Mission Statement
Carolina Tiger Rescue is a nonprofit wild cat sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild.
About This Cause
Carolina Tiger Rescue believes the ideal home for wildlife is in the wild. 1. It is critical to conserve their native habitats. 2. Wild animals should not be kept as pets. 3. Captive breeding should be done when it is the ONLY alternative left to save species facing extinction and should ONLY be done in accordance with Species Survival and Population Management Plans. 4. All wild animals, both captive and in their native habitats, deserve to be treated with respect and not exploited for entertainment and commercial purposes. To achieve our mission, Carolina Tiger Rescue: 1. rescues wildcats 2. provides lifelong sanctuary for wildcats 3. educates the public about the plight of wildcats in captivity and in the wild 4. conducts non-invasive research to further understand and aid wildcats 5. advocates for action to maintain wildcats in sustainable native habitats, or when that is not a viable option, for the respectful, humane treatment of them in captivity. Meet Aria Aria’s family purchased her in 2003 as a pet from a breeder. When Aria was 10 she became ill and began to rapidly lose weight but her owners couldn’t find veterinary care for her. Aria’s weight plummeted to about 200 pounds (half the normal adult female weight), and her fur became feathery and frail. She was so weak and could barely even lift her head. Animal Control officers intervened and immediately called Carolina Tiger Rescue. When Carolina Tiger brought Aria to our sanctuary, we learned that she had Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. We added to her diet beef pancreas to provide the enzymes that her body couldn’t make. Aria regained her strength and today she is healthy cat with a gorgeous coat of fur who loves to greet visitors. She will require this special diet for the remainder of her life. Aria’s story illustrates one of many reasons that we believe that wild cats should not be owned by private individuals. Very few people have the knowledge, access to knowledgeable veterinarians, or resources to properly care for them.
