Mission Statement

El Pueblo’s mission is for Latinos to achieve positive social change by building consciousness, capacity, and community action.

About This Cause

El Pueblo builds consciousness through La Fiesta del Pueblo, it's annual Latin American festival, outreach workshops, and community forums. Building capacity means developing youth and adult leaders in the community. Community action refers to civic engagement, collaborative organizing, and legislative advocacy. We have three youth leadership programs: Youth Council (YC), Pueblo Power (PPP), and Derechos Sun Fronteras (DsF). YC focuses on designing and facilitating PPP, integrating youth into all aspects of the organizationm and facilitating intergenerational activites. PPP focuses on training youth on social justice and youth organizing to give youth the tools to take action. DsF focuses on reproductive health and justice using a peer educator model. We have three adult leadership programs: Women's Empowerment Groups (PARE), LIderes de Salud (Lideres), and LIderes en Salud y Justicia Reproductiva (LSJR). The PARE program is for women who are survivors of or women touched by domestic violence and/or sexual assault who wish to learn to support women who are in crisis. Lideres goal is to ensure equitable access to health care for Latinxs in Wake County by increasing access to health information and services, addressing intersectionality and the connection between reproductive justice and immigrant rights, and preparing community members to advocate on their own behalf. The goal of LSJR is to train Lideres on reproductive health and justice topics and and taking action on issues of reproductive justice.
