OUR MISSION: The Highland Community Center focuses on developing and implementing effective education, social and athletic programs and services, to address the needs of our community. OUR VISION: We create positive experiences for all who choose to use our programs and services. OUR VALUES: At all times, we will work to achieve our stated vision with uncompromising integrity, teamwork, trust and respect. We will establish a sustainable culture of caring and understanding with a focus on customer satisfaction.
About This Cause
The Highland Community Center in Mount Gilead is a dynamic and welcoming space that brings people together, fosters personal growth, and promotes community well-being. Through its diverse programs, commitment to inclusivity, and emphasis on community engagement, the center plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents of all ages in Mount Gilead. Our thoughtful and engaged board is committed to make Highland the gathering place for all citizens in the community. Originally established as a school for African American students, the institution took a significant step forward in 1951 with the construction of a new brick building and was renamed as the Highland School. It was thoughtfully transformed into the Highland Community Center as a non-profit entity in 1992, and now stands as a vibrant hub for all citizens, honoring its legacy of education and service while embracing a future of inclusivity and community enrichment. The Highland Community Center in Mount Gilead, NC, hosts a variety of annual events that bring the community together to celebrate, reflect, and engage. Juneteenth is a vibrant celebration honoring freedom and cultural heritage with activities that commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The Annual Holiday Luncheon fosters warmth and camaraderie as residents of all ages share in the festive spirit. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the center hosts inspiring programs, guest speakers, and artistic performances to honor Dr. King’s legacy and encourage meaningful dialogue on justice and equality. The Annual Christmas Banquet and Fashion Show dazzles attendees with a blend of holiday cheer and glamour, featuring a festive banquet and a stylish showcase. These events underscore Highland's role as a cornerstone of unity and cultural enrichment in Mount Gilead. As we look towards the future, Highland Community Center is poised to grow and evolve, continuing to play a pivotal role in enriching the lives of those in Mount Gilead and beyond.
