Mission Statement
To positively stimulate a child's mind, body, and spirit through interactive learning exhibits and educational programs that are fun, healthy, safe, and inspirational.
About This Cause
JJ's Playhouse was created out of a passion for the health, well-being, growth and development of children. Concerned about the quality and availability of opportunities for children near their home, the founders conceived JJ's Playhouse in 2005 with two goals in mind - to provide an exciting learning and exploration facility for children and to tackle the growing issue of childhood obesity. What started as an idea grew into crafting JJ's Playhouse as both a children's museum and gym. Until a permanent facility is funded and built, JJ’s Playhouse reaches children through school and community programs that apply our hands-on, exploratory approach to engage children in learning experiences that are full of fun and discovery. Our traveling exhibits and programs are currently presented at a variety of sites where children and families gather to develop creativity, confidence, and compassion. Since the global pandemic, we have also presented a virtual career program entitled Kids Asking Questions where children virtually interview career professionals and this is shared with schools and early learning centers throughout the state and country. A children’s museum and gym in West-Metro Atlanta will strengthen our communities by leveraging the collective power of public schools, childcare centers and other community-based organizations to expose children to a rich environment that cultivates creative thinking. Because of their ability to provide resources that may not be available in the schools, museums help to augment the classroom education with hands-on learning and skill development. Children’s museums are unique places that bring children, families and communities together for quality interaction. Offering lifelong learning opportunities for audiences as young as a year old, children’s museums are vital cultural institutions. Serving as beacons amid a frenzied environment, children’s museums celebrate play and creativity; provide activities that nurture family relationships; establish common ground in communities; collaborate with traditional educational and social service organizations and build creative communities that improve the quality of life. Grounded in well-established pedagogy, children’s museums are leading a movement that combines specific learning objectives with play in informal learning environments. As highly desirable meeting places and as proponents of play, children’s museums bring a world of possibilities to families who want the best for their children.
