Mission Statement
Clover Area Assistance Center (CAAC) responds effectively and compassionately to those in need who reside within the boundaries of the Clover School District (Bethel, Bethany, Bowling Green, Clover, Lake Wylie, and portions of York and Blacksburg, South Carolina). Urgent needs are met either directly or collaboratively through food, financial assistance, health services, and special need items. CAAC partners with multiple organizations to insure immediate needs are being met through the appropriate organizations. Through educational programming, CAAC works to help people bridge the gap between dependence and self-sufficiency. CAAC offers Living Basics Classes (LBC) to help people with budgeting, grocery spending, nutrition, and job readiness. CAAC also operates a small medical clinic (chronic treatment) and dental clinic (full care including partial and full dentures) for the uninsured. There are no charges for any services provided by CAAC.
About This Cause
All individuals seeking assistance are screened before services are provided. Proof of residency, photo ID, proof of income, and proof of benefits, are required for the household. Many individuals, businesses, schools, civic groups, and churches entrust CAAC with resources to insure that those resources are going to those with greatest need. CAAC operates a Full Choice Food Pantry, whereby individuals are able to shop by category from product available on a once monthly basis. Amount of food allowed per category is based on household size. Financial assistance for rent and utilities is provided only if the amount paid will stop eviction or disconnect. In most cases, individuals are asked to put money toward their bills before CAAC will assist. CAAC works with the client and the utility companies whenever possible to seek an alternate payment plan for the client. A small medical clinic serves clients with non-emergent care, generally limited to care for chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. CAAC also assists with prescriptions and works closely with local pharmacies to insure the best prices. The dental clinic is a full care clinic that is held weekly. On average, it takes 12 visits to correct the oral health issues that uninsured adults face. For those people on the waiting list, CAAC provides oral health supplies monthly to alleviate a worsened condition. CAAC offers Living Basics Classes (LBC) a minimum of twice monthly. Classes are Budgeting, Needs vs. Wants, Credit and Fraud, Setting Financial Goals, Couponing, Nutrition/Healthy Cooking, Grocery Choices, Job Readiness (interview, resume, how to dress, employer expectations, etc.). CAAC makes referrals to Tri-District Adult Education and will pay for testing and supply fees. Because transportation is a major issue in the predominantly rural community, CAAC provides space for outside service providers to bring their services to the local community. CAAC also has Benefit Bank counselors who can assist people with applying directly on line for benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, etc. CAAC partners with many local agencies and insures that resources they receive get to where they can be best used. Partners include the school district social workers, Palmetto Pregnancy Center, The Early Learning Partnership, PATH (People Attempting to Help), Gods Kitchen, Lighthouse Homeless Shelter, Tenderheart Ministries Shelter for Women and Children, Thompson, Rotary Clubs of Clover and Lake Wylie, Jaycees, and numerous churches. CAAC is not only the first stop for clients to get assistance and referrals, but it is also the agency those with resources turn to, knowing CAAC will insure that those resources get to the organization that can best serve the needs of clients.
